Hello Folks - I'm scheduled to have this procedure in July and wondered if anyone here has had one, and if so what to expect. This is laser surgery to make a cut in the cricopharyngeal muscle to help stuff go down. My ENT told me that the risk is low - about 1% of patients developed a hole in the esophagus that can be threatening (though I don't think life threatening), and that there can be some regurgitation issues as well.

I'm really hoping this will help with my ongoing (and seemingly worsening) swallowing issues.

Thanks.
David

I just noticed that I spelled the procedure wrong.... and hadn't noticed it in the few weeks it's been up!

It is of course CRICOpharyngeal.

The management apologizes for the error.

David, I notice you are from LA, are you going to UCLA Medical by any chance?

Steve, sorry, I haven't checked in here lately. No, not UCLA. The procedure is tomorrow, I'll let you know once I'm in the clear.

David, Hopre the procedure went well. I bombed out of the UCLA PRP program. Just too much damage to the vocal chords.
So quiet on the forum these days, very weird to me. So many people need help
